I won't go on safari with anyone. I'd be the slowest runner, and we all know how that turns out! :(

Dad's advice to his son: "If you're hiking and a 9 foot grizzly rears up, you just reach back, grab a handful of shiit and throw it in the bear's eyes. Then run."

Son: "Where do you get the shiit from?"

Dad: "Trust me, it'll be there."

Last year was a disaster for me. I hope this year's better.

1) Caught Covid in February. This was real bad and I wasn't sure I'd make it alive. I literally didn't eat for 2 weeks. I was wondering if I'd ever eat again.

2) My Dad passes away in April. Aneurysm in his aorta which blew up. Very tough loss.

3) 3 Months later Mom was in hospital to fix the same thing which killed my dad. a 5-7 day stay turned into 6 weeks when her kidneys wouldn't start up again. We weren't sure she would make it.

4) The day before Labor Day I did something rather reckless and flash-burned both by hands and forearms. Very painful, 2nd degree all over. Apparently the hospital near me doesn't treat these and I got put in an ambulance and sent to Ascension St. Mary's burn center in Milwaukee ($2,300, thank you very much). Fortunately, I only stayed there one night. I was out of work for 2 weeks, since I couldn't type.

Condolences for your dad and the entire 2021. Here's to a better 2022. What you went through with covid; you must be strong. Be careful out there.

Thanks guys. any one of those would have been a bad year. Mom's doing mostly better now. It took us forever just to get her to eat anything.

Got my 3rd booster shot on Thursday. I was sick all weekend. Felt like Covid all over again. I hope I'm done with that for awhile.

The headstone for my Dad's grave just went up last month. I used to like going out there, but not so much anymore.

Sorry to hear of your loss & I thank my lucky stars I live in UK. If that injury happened to me I'd be taken to hospital, treated & released & it would cost me the grand total of £0.00

Your health system is beyond broken in my opinion.

When is your "tax freedom" day again? That is the day of the year that all your income until then will be confiscated for taxes. Not actually but a symbolic token. After that is when your money is yours.

He's absolutely right. He wouldn't have had to pay for the health care. Also, we know our health care system is broken. When it shuts people out from getting life saving medications they need to just survive, due to price gouging, that alone should tell you things need to change. There's a lot more wrong with the system, including how much insurance companies get away with charging for insurance, so they can build beautiful golf courses, and insure hefty dividends for shareholders.

Yup! We do need to fix it. Tax day has nothing to do with it. We pay for it every day, not just up until tax day.

Here's the UK tax rates:

BandTaxable incomeTax rate
Personal AllowanceUp to £12,5700%
Basic rate£12,571 to £50,27020%
Higher rate£50,271 to £150,00040%
Additional rateover £150,00045%

As you go through, remember to add on all the extra money you pay for private insurance, deductibles, and all the other out of pocket expenses we have here in the US. In the end, we probably aren't that far apart.

Now, as for quality of medical services, I'm not even going to touch that one, because I don't have a clue how that falls to be honest.

Sorry I seem to have touched a nerve. My point is health care is free at point of contact. Cost me nothing to see a doctor or have treatment in hospital. Yes I pay tax. yes I pay National Insurance. & sales tax (20%) so our system isn't perfect BUT how many have savings just in case you need medical care?

You can't save enough to cover deductibles in the US. The leading cause of bankruptcy is medical bills. This spells it out. Medical Emergencies

My son is 19. I have a friend from Dover Ohio & his grandson was born same year. Cost his daughter in law about $5000 for his birth cost me £0.00

Health care can be hit & miss too some hospitals are better than others shouldn't be but people running them & working in them are human. I live near to a world leading heart hospital & close to a teaching hospital.
