Zook can't be blamed for Crosby. While special teams are bad today, Crosby has cost them a chance to win the game. The Vikings cut their kicker when he missed three kicks against the Packers. My hunch with MM is that he will put loyalty over performance. MM will trip over himself spewing excuses for Crosby after the game. Maybe that's why this team never plays 4 quarters. They just don't fear being cut for poor performance.

Yep.

It’s frightening to think that there’s a really good chance that Capers would still be the DC if Rodgers doesn’t break his collarbone last year.

You said it, it’s loyalty over performance, probably why A Jones isn’t on the field more...

This was a freakish game. I don't think you fire Crosby for one bad game. If it becomes habitual though...

No one wants to fire Crosby. I just get tired of the poor schemes on kickoff and punt returns. The players continue to block in the back. I can see it while watching the game. That people is flat out coaching. I am a big Crosby fan he has won a lot of games for this franchise and will win many more.

Zook and other coaches need to go.

Mason is a Packer Hall of Fame kicker. He is a stud who had a bad day. He has won a hell of alot of games for this team so he gets a pass. The block in the back and holding penalties on every freaking punt and kick return....thats on zooker. Clean that **** up already or get gone.

Mason knows like we all know, it’s the Jimmy Johnson rule, a kickers job is only to kick! If he can’t he should be gone.......

Football Outisders had the Packers special teams ranked ninth in the league entering this week with PFF grading them in the middle of the pack at 18th. There's no doubt the unit had a terrible game yesterday but that's not enough to make a case for Zook to be fired.

When has special teams ever been a strength for this team under McCarthy? Outside of Crosby we've been pretty much meh to bad. Having Tramon out there returning punts
sums up the state of our return game for that unit. It's non existent. Not sure how we can't do better than an old corner.
Monty is the lone bright spot on occasion in the KR game but it seems we only have solid returns if we blatantly hold someone.
Kick coverage has been decent enough too.

I was wondering who the new scapegoats would be now that both Capers & Thompson are gone.....:>)

Zook doesn't have anything to do with missed FGs or an unfortunate bounce of the ball.

What is annoying is the penalties.

As I've mentioned all offseason it was a mistake not adding an adequate replacement for Davis as a punt returner.

The return game has always been a position we don't seem to value much. Will Blackmon is probably the best returner we've had statistically in the last decade

Statiscally Trevor Davis is actuall the best punt returner the Packers have had in a long time. Unfortunately he made too many bad decisions fielding punts.

Even if the stats don't say so, I still say Cobb in his rookie season was the best. Course all returners pale in comparison to the great Desmond Howard.

Not even a comparison. Carlson was a rookie while Crosby has a proven history. Anyone remember the 2 kicks vs Cowboys just last season? Crosby is a better kicker than last game!

It's like if AR thrown 2 Int's, people here will be calling for his head. ;)

I wonder what would have happened if they had just given Favre the Super Bowl MVP that year, instead of getting fancy and giving it to a special teams guy? Without that MVP to drive his market value up, would he have been a cheaper re-signing? Would we have held on to him?

While having Superbowl MVP to his name probably did bump his price tag up, I'm betting he still would have been highly expensive to re-sign because even without it, he was still hands down the league's best return man at the time. Crazy how he fell off dramatically after that year though.

You're probably right. And it was strange how he dropped off.
