The top 12 guys are all paid $5.0MM and up with the top 3 $6.0MM and up.
Thanks Suds. I appreciate the info.

Based on his performance last season (and what happens when a kicker is inconsistent), I'd say he earned this contract. I think he only missed one or maybe two FGs and was perfect on XPs. We all notice when the kicking game causes losses. The opposite should be true as well. McManus is a welcome, long-term addition to the team.

Are there kickers making $8 mil/year? Based on his performance in GB, McManus certainly earned the contract. I didn't know what the top kickers were paid. Suds responded with approx $6 mil/year. I'd be interested in knowing who makes more than that.

Nope not presently - which if you notice I corrected what I said to $6M.

Three kickers currently are at the $6M a year and there are currently 9 kickers that make more than McManus's new contract. I figured with the way contracts go though that McManus would reset the top.

LOL apologies I mispoke, my predictive spreadsheet said $6M so I guess not a crazy steal as I thought.
Well McManus is getting paid as much, or close to as much as the top kickers in the NFL. Based on his performance in GB, he certainly earned the new contract. And we all realized how a bad or inconsistent kicking game can ruin a season. Nice job by Gluten for being on top of his situation and signing his as soon as the NFL's inquiry was over.

Happy he signed and I feel the contract was deserving. Now they need to get our stud Punter a multi year deal and sure up the kicking game moving forward. Wondering what your thoughts are on a contract in $'s & yrs are for Whelan.

We'd be dumb to sign a multi-year deal on Whelan - not from a "his play sucks" perspective but because he is an ERFA. Cheap one more year for us and then next off season is when we will need to sign him.

He will cost us roughly $1.2M this next season.

If he continues to do well, market says he'll get around $3M/yr IMO if we want to keep him.

Interesting point. I think he's worth $3 mil/year now. The Packers don't have to pay that. Just wondering if Whelan sees that as a diss and decides to try FA next year. You mention ERFA and I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it means the Packers don't have a reason to worry about losing him. Yes or no?

I don't know what the top punters earn, but Whelan is the best punter GB has had for many years. Pay the man and lock down the kicking game. I like that.

ERFA - A player not under contract, but who has less than 3 accrued seasons. The team must tender the player with an Exclusive Rights Free Agent (ERFA) tender offer (usually the applicable minimum salary based on service time) in order to retain its rights over the player.

Just coincidence that the Packers sign McManus to a 3 year deal and Mason Crosby officially retires (as a Packer) today?

Somewhere Captain is crying (about McManus contract) and dancing (about Crosby retiring).

So there's no risk of losing Whelan as long as the Packers want him, right? In that case, then yeah, pay him $1.8 mil this year and man a fair offer next year.

everyone involved knows what the rules are. In this case, everything seems to break to the Packers benefit. They have a great punter on a sweet deal. And with other, more pressing needs, every dollar of cap space is needed.
