Are the refs calling penalties on kick off returns so the NFL can feel justified in eliminating the KO return? I have never seen so many penalties all around the league on KO returns! Never! A lot of times they don't show the replay. I thought the call against us last night was bogus although he did have his hands on the outside of the shoulders. Was not even necessary.

Watching across the league I would be interested to know what the penalty rate is for kickoffs compared to 5,10,15 years ago. I guess special teams penalties have always seemed somewhat common to me over the years but lately it does seem to be more. Especially on kickoffs and not just against GB either, but everyone. Am I noticing more because I’m leaning that way or are there really more?

Posted this in another thread, before I saw this one, but penalties are a very telling story with the Packers this year.

They are only a piece of the puzzle, but Penalties this year have been killing the Packers. Do you blame them on bad luck, poor coaching, unskilled players?

If you look at this season VS previous ones, the increased number of penalties in almost every category seem to be an anomaly.

Don't know what you mean here. My point was that there is a lot! more penalties now when the kick off is returned. You can't just look at penalties on kick offs. It is how many penalties there are when the kick is returned as compared to the past. And maybe the refs have been advised to call anything even close. I just commented on our specific play for the helluvit.
