This guy would've been a starter in the 3-4 we ran last year...in Hafley's 4-3 he's gonna be a beast. He'll be able to come through on the blitz and make the Tackles decide 'ok do I block Cooper or do I block Van Ness/Gary'. He'll be able to cover backs and tight ends in the passing game as well, and you know he'll be a beast in the run game. What I saw when I watched footage was his ability to diagnose. I don't care that his 'test score' says he has 4.5 speed. He LOOKS like he runs about 3.8 in game.

They traded that 5th rounder to the Raiders for a 6th and a 7th - Jarrick Bernard-Converse (strong safety, 3rd on the depth chart) and Zack Kunst (4th TE on the depth chart). Vegas got the best of the deal; Smith is the #2 free safety, and may have a future.
I clicked on the 11 minute highlight video A&M put out on Cooper...I only had to watch 3 minutes, and this was before we ever drafted him. This is the 1st draft pick I've really been excited about in over 15 years...and don't ask who the last one was it didn't pan out as good as I thought it would.x.com

So, they are making an effort to try trick Cooper. That means the coaches identified him as someone difficult to fool. I am getting more excited about Cooper and what he will mean to this defense.
Thats great. I think Edgerrin could be better than Quay. Quay doesn’t play to expectations for a #22 overall selection imo.
Edgerrin plays at about a 3.8 40 time because he can diagnose anything and get to the ball before the ball can get to the receiver/back.

I think he might have meant that Edge reads and reacts so much more quickly than other players that it's the functional equivalent of being a half second faster in terms of his actual speed. That his mental speed is so fast that it has the effect of an even faster physical speed.
