The season is now over so I thought I would make a Studs and Duds dedicated to players through this season.

Who was that Stud who make a difference and who was a Dud and was a waste of money.

Jacob’s by far is THE stud. Lack of focus, mistakes and poor play calling in crucial moments are the duds. These can be corrected.

Love absolutely blew this year. And not worth the contract he got. They should be evaluating him now and deciding on what to do with him. What you see is what you get I don’t see him getting any better that what he is.
I also am sick of MLF.
Clark
Gary
Van ness all duds
Front office made some good moves by signing two good players and imagine that it pays off. Jacob’s is great and so is McKinney. But this team is no where near a SB they also have no receivers. I could go on and on. But my biggest studs are by far Jacobs and McKinney. Willis was good too

Studs:
Offense: Josh Jacobs
Defense: McKinney and Cooper
Special Teams: Whelan and McManus

Duds:
Offense: The Jet Sweep on 4th and short
Defense: Van Ness and his lack of overall development in year two, he didn't take the 2nd year leap, maybe he moved the marker and inch from last year, but probably that inch was in the wrong direction.
Special Teams: Keisean Nixon wasn't an impact this year, and was more detrimental than positive on KO's.

Dud:
Love
regressed a little this year. He started the season this way before injury. Throwing high. Throwing inside instead of outside. Throwing leading too much. I saw at minimum 6-7 throws that were uncatchable. I saw
2-3 more that should’ve been INT. he was very lucky he didn’t have 3-4 INT imo. Then finished the season the same way. Poor decisions. Poor throws.

Matt. I thought this game plan was bordering atrocious. Run up the gut? Against that group? Zero imagination this reminded me of preseason. Totally unprepared imo.

Rich B. Very poor preparation. It showed up play #1.

Lack of playmakers. Missing Watson and JA didn’t help, but I still don’t see any O weapons past maybe Jacobs, Reed, Tucker. Wicks is ok but not a WR1 or 2. Maybe a good #3?
Watson is like a good, PT employee. He’s really a Specialist is all. Dynamic but unreliable.

Lack of Defensive Pass Rush. Can’t believe we repeated Week1 playing chess lane integrity. Allowed 170 rushing and over 5+ per in process. .

Stud: Josh Jacobs. Wow. Love that guy. Shows up to play.

Defensive Pass protection. We really didn’t allow explosive plays over the top. Made them earn it. Couldn’t overcome 4 Turnovers though.

and how do you get a Fumble KO #1
Instead of starting in great Field Position. Zero awareness?

Then you back up -7 points with a holding on KO .#2. Backing is up to our own 10??? What? Inexcusable

That would’ve been strictly warned. It made Ty Montgomery look intelligent. I’d told the ST group, Get a flag in Qtr1? and go to the lockerroom I’ll meet you for a talk at HT.

Nevada.
Dud, Jordan Love. He is not elite and Jayden Daniels and others will have a much longer and more productive career than Love.

Stud, Josh Jacobs.

For the season… I’ll try and pick two studs on both sides of the ball.
O: Jacobs, Kraft
D: McKinney, Cooper

Duds: just about all the rest. Pass rush was next to nonexistent all year. Love looks worse than he did a year ago. None of our WRs took the “step” we hoped they would (and needed them to?). ST was generally a debacle with the exception of McManus and Whelan. Investing high draft capital in “projects” has failed to pay off and it’s catching up.

I just don’t know right now. Maybe it’s too fresh but right now I feel like I felt better about the direction/trajectory of the team at the end of last season than at the end of this one. In many ways it just kind of feels like a “wasted” season, unfortunately… didn’t play poor enough to get a premier draft selection, but not really good enough to be in the “elite” tier, either, and right now it doesn’t feel like we really laid the groundwork for much to build on next year and/or didn’t have much player improvement to hang our hats on. I dunno, I guess the improvements in defense were a pleasant surprise…

What is bad is they couldn’t beat one good team this year… they got abused by anyone good they played they were frauds this and didn’t deserve the playoffs. They should have been 0-6 in the division on a lucky block.. it’s just frustrating I guess. I think MLF is to blame and idk if he is good enough. I don’t care about Win percentage I care about what they do in the post season and he gets bullied. Regardless of what love did he is our starter for at least 2 more years At minimum. Kraft Jacobs Reed are good pieces. But they need a real number 1 and number 2 receiver.. reed is good but not a true number 1. And then see what love can do I guess. I think we seen loves ceiling. He is an average QB in the league and needs a team to carry him he isn’t going to carry the team. And that’s just not gonna get it done

Now that the "sophomore jinx" year is over, I still hold out hope that Love will show some improvement next season. He has flashes of brilliance, but then takes two steps back. You'd think that as good as our run game was this year, the passing game would benefit. Anyway, he deserves at least another year to show something IMO, but I don't know how confident I am about it. I guess this is what it's like to have an average quarterback.

MLF isn't going anywhere either, but I'm getting concerned that he is slowly losing the team.

I mean the love didn’t take over any games… I whole heartedly believe the way they played all year Malik Willis could have done the same thing and gotten them just as far I mean Willis didn’t even lose a game… I think it’s just a culture shock we don’t have a 3 HOF qb lol love will NEVER be that. Hopefully he gets better… cuz we are stuck with him.
MLF is a whiney beeeeyaaaatchhhh I can’t stand watching him throw temper tantrums on the sideline… he may need to give up play calling duties…. Making the playoffs isn’t good enough he has had his chances.. again he isn’t going anywhere either.

I'd add Kraft as a stud on offense this year.

How do you get a fumble on the very first play? Get hit in the face helmet to helmet and then the refs don't call the play dead after you recover it and allow Philly to rip it out of your hands.

For years we have had QBs who could carry the team on their shoulders. I don't think Love is as bad as you suggest. If we surround Love with enough talent we can win with him. Other teams in the postseason this year are winning without elite QBs.

I wonder what our record would be with Willis also, and yeah, he didn't lose a game as a starter. But he played a good chunk of the Bears game, and didn't pull it out - played a lot of backups though.

This is likely irrelevant, but I keep thinking it: MLF looks so small, it makes you wonder how he can demand the kind of physical toughness we'd like to have. Dan Campbell at least looks like he'd kick your **** in a back alley. And the Lions definitely have a physical presence.
