I saw conflicting reports on Collins as well and just reading his Bio, I would lean towards the Rookie Mini Camp invite as well.

https://www.waxahachietx.com/news/2...-by-green-bay-packers-as-undrafted-free-agent

I would have preferred QB Jake Browning from Washington. The Vikings signed him for what is reported to be the highest paid contract ever paid to an UDFA.

In the end, all will probably just be camp arms and if one of them shows something, they will earn a spot on the PS.

Bringing only Ficken in to compete with Crosby kind of tells me where the mindset of the Packers is for that position moving forward.

Remember Browning tore his throwing shoulder in back to back years, he never regained the arm strength from what I understand, and he never had a huge arm to begin with. Vikes are probably just throwing something to the wall and hoping it sticks.

I get it that Crosby has regressed, but I'm not trying to get a kicker who's going to have a record year in FG completions either, let's just get in the endzone and call it a day. I'm hoping the upgraded defense increases our average starting position, and gives him easier FG attempts.

The rookie invite Deion Harris - CB - North Dakota has me intrigued. He's 6'3", 200 lbs. runs a sub 4.5 40. In his Junior season, 2016, he had 5 Its. 3 returned for TD's. Then in a July 2017 off-season workout, he completely tore his left achilles tendon. Injury pushed back his Senior season to 2018.

Jake Browning is absolutely awful as a pro prospect. And Tyree Jackson should be a TE or something.

Pretty rare for an UDFA QB to ever become something. Don't expect much. Just want to push Boyle/Kizer.

He was very good before he got hurt. I love bringing him in.

At 6'3 sounds like a good S prospect if he lost a tad bit of the speed from the ACL.

Just remember that, aside from Shields and (sort of) Williams, I (possibly just because of age) can't remember any significant UDFA contributors.

Lane Taylor was an UDFA. Quite a few others, but "significant" is hard to define, especially if you try to factor in what they may or may not have done on special teams.

Most recent UDFA signings that seemed to do something:
  • G Lane Taylor
  • CB LaDarius Gunter
  • LB Joe Thomas
  • S Kentrell Brice
  • WR Geronimo Allison
  • OL Don Barclay
  • LB Jayrone Elliott
  • TE Justin Perillo
  • DT Mike Pennel
  • CB Sam Shields
  • RB Don Jackson
  • S Marwin Evans
  • FB Joe Kerridge
  • DT Brian Price
  • CB Josh Hawkins
  • CB Makinton Dorleant
  • S Chris Banjo

Oren Burks just tweeted an ex-teammate OLB Joshua Smith Vanderbilt just became a cheesehead. He's 6'4" 240 Not sure if he's just on an invite to rookie camp or not.

Smith enjoyed his finest campaign as a Commodore, playing in 12 of 13 games... Earned 12 starts at outside linebacker... Set single-season highs with 35 solo tackles, 61 total tackles, 3.5 quarterback sacks, eight tackles for loss, three pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

I saw that too and couldn't figure out if Smith had actually signed with the Packers, giving us 3 Smiths at OLB. :)

Hard to verify but a SBNation website lists him as having a 4.96 40 with a RAS of 4.28, he won't last long.

Deandre Thompkins, a PR specialist that we had in for a top 30 visit, signed with the Eagles.

Bring me a returner. Do it now.

BOLD prediction: Savage will try out at returner. He returned once for the Terps in 2017, for 36 yards.

We have Davis primarily, and Alexander as a backup.

Seriously, that must be what they're thinking... because otherwise I dont know why you ignore such a glaring problem.

I've been wondering the same thing, even looking at the stats of draftees and UDFA's that potentially could be a return guy. Only guy I can come up with is Savage. But he only returned 1 punt, albeit it was for 36 yards, I don't think the Packer drafted him with returning punts in mind. But with his speed, who knows.

Have to guess that MLF thinks that returner is currently on the team and I agree with both you and Janis, I hope that it isn't Davis that they are relying on to be that guy.

Given the lack of alternatives in the return game, and assuming they carry 6 receivers, I would expect them to end up with something like this:

Adams, Allison, Valdez-Scantling, St. Brown, Davis and either Moore or Kumerow.
