For a guy who has made next to nothing his entire life such as myself, I'd take a ring or the opportunity to play for the Packers over a huge payday. My thinking is I am already living on little to nothing so even a league minimum deal will set me up pretty good. If I had the talent to be commanding more than that via FA the feeling would be even stronger. However I say that as a guy without that talent so its easy for me to say. If I were an NFL caliber player my opinion may change. I'll answer Poker's question regarding the Browns or Patriots with a little twist. If I were as big a Browns fan as I am a Packers fan I'd take the Browns gig and I might even do it for less money. The way I see it if I am making millions a couple more won't matter for the feeling I would get by playing for my lifelong favorite team. If I had no allegiance either way and the money was the same I might choose the Patriots but there would be other things to consider. Is there a chance that my presence in Cleveland could make a difference in making them a better team. If my choice was go to the Patriots and win a ring and be consider nothing more than a cog in the gears of a championship team or go to the Browns and perhaps be a key gear in making the franchise a winner again I would probably choose the Browns. Even if it meant not actually winning a ring. Being a key part of turning the Browns into repeat playoff team would mean a lot more to me than being an role player with the Patriots. Its a money driven league but I think the question of money or a ring is over simplified. With a lot of players there is more to it than that. Obviously a player near the end of his career who has made his millions may sign for less to get a ring. Likewise a young guy who got his ring on his rookie deal may be more concerned with how much money he could make than his chances of winning another. If I had the choice of playing for the Packers for league minimum and playing for the viking as the highest paid player ever I'd choose the Packers. If I had the choice of playing for the Packers and never making the playoffs and playing for the viking and winning the Super Bowl...I'll wait for you to stop laughing... I'd choose the Packers. Any other team than the vikings, and probably the cowboys, I would have to think about it. My brother in law is a huge Bears fan. One day my nephew asked his mom "Mom, If I get drafted by the vikings do you think dad would be mad?" His mom said "Kole, if you get drafted by the vikings I think your dad would paint everything he owned purple" Its a matter of perspective.
