Once again Minnesota grabs our hand me downs. Granted he's there as an "assistant" but still.

Capers has forgotten more in his career than we'll ever see. Still, keep it "dumb", Dom. Most of these players have seen maybe 2 or 3 hours of actual classroom time.

Knee jerk reaction to getting beat twice by the Packers this past season. It's one thing to employ a former Packer great QB and WR, but this reminds me of hiring Barney Fife to head of security after a rash of break-ins.

I ACTUALLY just laughed out loud here......:laugh::laugh::laugh:
That was the point of me posting this. I know he's not going to be directly involved, but how can you not laugh at the mere sight of the headline? Their defense certainly won't get better under his advisement.

Dom is just looking for a paycheck. He will contribute almost nothing to the Viking defense. He might even screw it up. :D

Laugh all you want. Capers is a very good analytical coach. If you look at his history, he takes a bad defense and has them playing much better in years 2 and 3. After that they slowly decline.

Why is this? My theory is he doesn't develop players talent well. So average player's abilities begins to decline when the draft picks under his tutelage are required to start.

This may be an ideal role for him and I could see him being a huge asset. Not developing players but providing strategic analysis. I dont like this move for the packer's sake.

Come on man, roll with it. You know they just want to probe his mind, to try and uncover the secrets of the Packers.

The smart way to use Capers' knowledge would be to say "Hey Dom, what play would you call here?" And then call the opposite play.

Don't get me started on that 3 man Rush D. It failed every single time but he kept running it!

Is he going to assistant coach from the press box?

When you look at the teams that did well this season, a lot of them had well respected coaches. I wonder how much of our problems in recent years have been simply that we haven't been developing players correctly? Was it just bad drafting, or if some of those same players had been developed under different coaches would have been more successful?

Without a doubt.

Micah Hyde and Haywood both left as free agents and became all pro level players. And at a time when we we had a need for DBs.

Capers had the same job in Jacksonville for one year. They did field a good defense last season. To what degree Capers contributed is anybody's guess.

HC Marone and DC Wash are still on-board. It might have been Coughlin who brought him in given their success together back in the 1999-2000 period.

I don't see where Capers was fired along with Coughlin. He might have been on a one year contract that simply expired.

Anyway, a year out of the game might have given him some fresh perspectives. If he had anything to do with getting that package of picks from the Rams for the disgrutled Ramsey, a guy in the 4th. year of his rookie contract no less, then Capers probably earned his pay.
