One of the best books that I ever read as a teenager was written by an ex state trooper from New York. It was called "How To Avoid Speeding Tickets." The author laid out everything that an officer experiences during a traffic stop. He perfectly explained why everything that you could do to alleviate an officer's fears would go a long way to getting off without a ticket. Those things included pulling over immediately in a safe area, pulling over far enough so that the officer won't get hit by traffic, turning off the vehicle, putting the keys on the dashboard for the officer to see, rolling down the window, turning on your interior light so they can see there are no dangers, keeping your hands on the steering wheel, moving slowly and announcing why you may reach into a pocket or glove box..... The rationale was that by the time the officer was ready to write the ticket, he/she would be so relaxed and at ease that they consider letting you off with a warning. Tyreek did none of those things. He made everything worse from the get-go. I still think that yanking him out aggressively was a mistake. I doubt they would have done that if it was a 60yr old white guy wearing a shirt and tie - just my opinion. They still would have gotten him out of the vehicle but without the same force. I think that the officer skipped a step. They should have opened the door and forcefully repeated their demand for him to exit instead of immediately removing him. There was nothing to suggest that Hill was doing anything besides being disobedient and disrespectful. If they did this to a snooty US Senator I think that the officer would be in the same trouble. If it had happened to a piece of trailer trash, it wouldn't even break into the local news.
