This may be mentioned somewhere else, but I see the Rams and Chiefs broke our old record for most points scored in a Monday Night Football game. The Rams beat the Chiefs 54-51, besting our 48-47 defeat of the Washington Football Team in 1983.

Defense? The only D was on the line, Dbacks seem to be a dieing breed they are way to delicate on the corners and at safety, most do not want to tackle and playing 10 yds or more off a receiver and still getting beat is where we are not with suspect defenses, the officials don’t help either with questionable penalties.

They showed the top three biggest point games for MNF and each one was over 100 combined points so our record was already beat or we didn't catch up to the next highest one above ours.
48 + 47 = 95 and all those other games were higher or over 100 pts.

Anway, that Chiefs/Rams game was one exciting game to watch! An incredible and awesome display of football.
I just hope that no Packers were watching otherwise they are crying in their beers.

The 113, 106 scores? Those were the top scoring NFL games EVER, not just on MNF. They showed that stat soon after mentioning the fall of our record. This game didn't make the highest ever but it was the first time both teams scored 50+.

Call me old fashioned, but I am going to miss the standard 21-17 games where offense and defense both matter equally.

The NFL is becoming a glorified version of the Arena League.
I believe the highest scoring game ever is still the Redskins over the Giants 72 to 41 in 1966.

Look at it this way. The Chiefs had 13 penalties and five turnovers. They still managed to put up 51 points and almost 600 yards in offense. Think we could even get 20?

Having watched that game, it seemed that both Qb's trusted their players to get the necessary yardage. I wish ours/ coaches would too.

It was the most entertaining game that I've ever watched, mostly because both teams played hard for all 60 minutes. There was never a let down, but there were mistakes. The lead went back and forth until the end. I find it hard to compare a game like that to some of the biggest comeback games. I guess they are each special in their own ways, same as a good 6-3 defensive game....but it's even more rare to see two amazing defenses square off.

The Packers have some of the pieces to be as electric on offense because of playmakers such as Rodgers, Adams, and Aaron Jones. However, the other positions aren't complimentary enough to make those guys shine....and we're playing with a monkey on our back.

Correct. This was the highest scoring MNF game ever. However, it was only the third highest scoring game in NFL history.

The number of penalties throughout the game was astounding, especially in the beginning. I think that lead to the scoring. On the first drive, Murray got flagged near the endzone for a hit on a defenseless player. The guy didn't use his helmet, but put his shoulder pad on the ball and forced an incompletion. That should be textbook in my world. Penalties like that at the start set the tone for the rest of the game.

Interesting fact: the NFL pulled together an "all-star" roster of referees for last night's game, similar to what they would do for the playoffs. It's possible that this hodgepodge also led to more penalties....or just the fact that both teams were pushing the limits. I'm sure it was a combination of both.

Defense is de-emphasized in today's NFL. I'm surprised that old record stood up for as long as it did.
rules-wise yes, but i don't think the teams believe that's the way to win. there were plenty of good defensive plays, and points scored by the D, in that ridiculous game last night. if that was the case lar wouldn't have signed every good defensive free agent there was last off-season.

Oh.
I didn't hear that.
I watch the game with a blabber mouth who just blurts out any old thing as soon as it comes up in her mind.
It's funny and annoying at the same time.

I read the headline on NFL.com that said something like Goff and Defense lead Rams to win and my first thought was someone played defense.

I thought the very different takes by the two most hated commentators on this board were kind of amusing:

Skip Bayless: "Wow, the Chiefs stink because Patrick Mahomes had five turnovers".
Colin Cowherd: "Wow, the Chiefs are really good because Mahomes had five turnovers, but they still scored 51 points and only lost by three".

Well, someone played defenses in this game as well as the units combined to score 21 points and forced seven turnovers.
