Unfortunately, two careers cut way short of being able to establish HOF credentials

Butler’s legacy extends outside the lines as well. His pick-six on Dec. 26, 1993 resulted in the first of what became known as the Lambeau Leap, the Packers signature scoring celebration.
That right there should be enough to put him in the HOF.

Tom Braatz was the Packers de facto general manager in 1989.

Braatz didn't really have the kind of power than Ron Wolf and Ted Thompson did/do. Coach Lindy Infante was the more decisive one when it came to draft decisions and roster moves. His insistence on that was one of the reasons Wolf passed on the Green Bay job back then.

But in fairness, back then every one- and I mean every one- was on board with that pick. Not only the Packers but the national media, scouts, everybody. It's that view that made Mandarich an even bigger bust than the many other first round busts the Packers or any other team have had in their history.

There are not many 4-time All Pros not in the Hall.
Well, I think he deserves a nomination. Unfortunately, the voters are big on quantity...gross stats that build over long careers. He's a person of strong opinions; he may be rubbing some people the wrong way.

It wasn't a pick six by Butler though, it was off a lateral. My memory always was that Reggie intercepted it and lateraled it to Leroy but I guess it was ruled a completed pass for the Raiders and a fumble recovery by Reggie and just before he was tackled he lateraled it to LeRoy who took it in for the score. I looked at it just now and its hard for me to tell because my internet connection is so crappy I can't get a good look without the frames jumping but it looks as though it could have been an interception. I'm not sure the ball was ever in the Raiders receivers possession but I don't know if the ball ever hit the ground either. It also looks as though Reggie was very close to being out of bounds before he lateraled it. According to Max McGee (he was making the call) they didn't have instant replay that year so who knows what would have happened upon further review.

I was at the game and it was cold. The play happened right in front of where we were sitting. Everyone was freezing and going nuts over the call that I doubt if more than 100 people in the stadium at the time realized he had jumped into the stands. I think he did it to warm up. Did I mention it was cold. As Homer Simpson would say MMM Beer Squishies

Whatever it was, it was a great heads up improv play that led to a touchdown and shows why they are the pros.
And it led to the first Lambeu Leap which is the best celebration in all sports.
That's all that matters to me.

Just setting the record straight is all.

It's a joke that Sharpe isn't in the Hall of Fame, I don't care about his short career. Terrell Davis is always on the cusp of being elected despite a short career because he was the best RB of his time but outside of Jerry Rice, whom is the greatest player of all time, Sharpe was the best WR of his time. And if he hadn't had his career cut shory by injury I truly believe he would've gone down as the second best WR of all time. He was putting up numbers that were unheard of, and that was before Favre developed into an elite quarterback. I was watching NFL Network's top 10 players not in the Hall of Fame and Sharpe didn't make the list. Instead he was omitted in favor of laughable selections like Ricky Watters, Alex Karras, Ken Anderson and Steve Tasker.
