Green Bay accepted the love that her husband, Reggie, felt for the Packers. In turn, the fans reciprocated by treating White and his family with love and respect.</p><p></p><p>While a Packers victory would have been the perfect finish to a special day, a loss does nothing to diminish this once-in-a-lifetime player’s extraordinary legacy.</p><p></p><p></p><p>• • •</p><p></p><p><strong>RANT</strong>: Let’s be perfectly clear on this: The officials didn’t cause the Packers to lose this game. The Browns’ big plays and the Packers’ lack thereof brought down the home team. That said, it is beginning to seem like the officials are targeting the Packers’ defensive backs with holding, interference and illegal-hands penalties. That is fine, so long as they call it both ways.</p><p></p><p>The officials’ greatest oversight came with 11 minutes, 49 seconds to play in the fourth quarter and the Packers facing a third-and-11 at the Cleveland 16. Brett Favre threw a pass toward Donald Driver, who was bumped by the Browns’ Daylon McCutcheon well beyond the 5-yard zone, but nothing was called. Instead of a first down inside the Browns’ 10, the Packers were forced to settle for a 34-yard Ryan Longwell field goal. Instead of trailing 19-14 with 11 minutes to play, the Packers were down 19-10 and still in need of two scores to take the lead.</p><p></p><p>• • •</p><p></p><p><strong>RANT:</strong> Packers coach Mike Sherman’s clock management was called into question, but for the wrong reason. Some felt the Packers took too long to score in the fourth quarter, with drives of 14 and 13 plays. At that point, the Packers gladly would have taken as many plays as necessary to score a touchdown.</p><p></p><p>Sherman’s clock management gaffe came with about 2:30 to play in the game. Instead of using the Packers’ final timeout, Sherman let the clock run to the 2-minute warning. A timeout would have saved 30 seconds before the 2-minute warning. It isn’t much in the grand scheme, but the way the Packers are playing, every little tick counts.</p><p></p><p>• • •</p><p></p><p><strong>RANT:</strong> Nick Collins’ misstep and Mark Roman’s missed tackle were responsible for the Browns’ two long touchdown passes in the second half. When the Browns’ Braylon Edwards got Packers cornerback Joey Thomas to bite on an outside fake, Collins moved several steps toward the line of scrimmage. It left Edwards with a mammoth seam to make the 80-yard catch and run. Roman simply whiffed trying to tackle Browns tight end Steve Heiden on his 62-yard touchdown play.</p><p></p><p>• • •</p><p></p><p><strong>RAVE:</strong> Packers cornerback Ahmad Carroll gets kudos for his punt coverage and defensive tackle Corey Williams deserves praise for hustling to try to run down Heiden on the 62-yard backbreaker.</p></blockquote><p></p>
