I saw some articles come across my screen today about MLF being on the hot seat. I have not been his biggest fan with his need to be HC and calling plays as most annoying to me. There are many other reasons you can put in there, bad game time decisions, poor clock management, team not prepared and I'm sure others will have their own peeves. I didnt feel any of these thing were earth shattering, cant be fixed kind of things so why I asked did I catch myself breathing a sigh of relief when I saw those articles. As I thought about this I came to realize my fear was that we might be caught in the pretty good season trap. That is what happened to the eagles When Andy Reid was coach. Reid was the HC for 14 years and just about every season was pretty good, successful enough to keep the fans interested, hopeful, and giving them something to cheer about every sunday. That was trap. Their successful seasons put them in the pretty good category every year but never good enough to win a SB and with their yearly success they were always low on the totem poll for draft picks. A vicious cycle continuously repeating over and over. They did make it to one SB in those 14 years, a losing effort, but mostly every season they were caught in that pretty good tier , never breaking out to the top tier region. Reid was a good coach but just not the right coach for the eagles. It was only when he took over at KC did he find the right fit. Right now thats how I look at MLF, a good coach no doubt, with the 2nd most amount wins in his tenure , only behind george seifert, but maybe not the right one for GB.
