But it's soooo early....
WHO CARES!!!
In honor of the first official CFP Rankings for this season, I figured it was time to go ahead and get serious about our next class to don the Green and Gold. While a lot will change all the way up Draft Day, I'll officially start my scouting process here. At every major junction leading up to Las Vegas , I'll post an update.
60th Overall: Monty Rice, ILB - Georgia: Somewhat of a reach at 60th for Rice(I have him ranked about 75-80) but when you're picking in the back of the Draft you either take your guy or don't take him at all. If Martinez is not resigned Murray and Rice would combine to make quite the showstopping duo on defense. Monty is the thick run stuffer who also has some burst and twitch who can play in the zone when necessary. I think in the long run Rice out plays Murray, but if they come up together even better.
65th Overall: Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR - Liberty: Finally!!!! A WR!!!! Gandy-Golden is 6'4 and knows how to use his size effectively, high points the ball with the best of them, and is a redzone matchup nightmare.
92nd Overall: Marlon Davidson, DE - Auburn: Another slight reach but Davidson is the guy. He has the versatility to move inside as well so he's another chess piece for Pettine to play with along the line. Kenny Clark needs help guys so our LB Corps can get to the football. Davidson replaced M. Adams' at Auburn, he'll do it again here in Green Bay.
134th Overall: Terrance Steele, OT - Texas Tech: I can't imagine the day where Gute doesn't take an OL in any Draft, but I don't believe he's going to settle for a bunch of late Day 3 guys routinely as Ted Thompson did. Steele could be a steal in the 4th Round. While Bulaga has resumed form, and Alex Light has played admirably as well, we need to prepare for the future.
171st Overall: Logan Stenberg, OG - Kentucky: We've all had our gripes about Billy Turner, but this pick could be more about Lane Taylor than you think. I expect Gute to address the Guard position in Day 3 to see if he can grow the position for relatively cheap Draft capital. "Stenny" is a large mauler type Guard who plays with a nasty streak and should open big holes for the RBs.
194th Overall: LaBryan Ray, DT - Alabama: His stock is all over the place, maybe the CFP will give him more time to shine. I don't think Lancaster is bad by any means, but a little competition couldn't hurt. Ray could be a good player on a stacked team who just couldn't put enough highlights together before graduation.
206th Overall: Damar Hamlin, CB/S - Pittsburgh: Josh Jackson could find himself cut or released if he can't improve, but as a 2nd Round Pick Tony Brown may be more susceptible to the axe if he can't clean up his act on the field. Hamlin has played all over the defense for Pitt but due to his lighter frame a permanent move to CB may be necessary for the NFL. Either way, I could see Hamlin stealing snaps from both Jackson and Brown at CB and even replacing them on Special Teams.
226th Overall: Tanner Muse, S - Clemson: Muse is a good safety for the college game, but he has coverage limitations for the NFL. However, I think he'd be excellent as a sub package swiss army knife. He's 6'4 and 225 with a sharp understanding of coverage as well as run fits. He could be the "3rd ILB" we draft late. If he can put on 10 more lbs, which is very possible given his length, a permanent move to ILB might be the best for his NFL projection. With Pettine's love of safeties I could see him finding a nice home with a niche role in Green Bay.
241st Overall: Benito Jones, DT - Mississippi: Benito Jones is "listed" at 326 lbs. He probably sat in a sauna for hours to get to that weight, I'd say 340 lbs honestly. As a situational run stuffer, who does have some surprising agility and moves for his size, he could be a nice early down stuffer to give Kenny Clark a break on long drives.
242nd Overall: Matt Hennessy, C - Temple: Hennessy has played all 5 positions on the offensive line for Temple, but I wouldn't exactly call him versatile. His best position is Center, maybe a backup Guard in a pinch. Hennessy would make an excellent Practice Squad candidate as he goes through an NFL conditioning program and adds some more bulk and functional strength.
Next mock will be probably Rivalry Week or Conference Championship Week.

FIRST MOCK - FIRST CFP RANKINGS RELEASED
TRADE!!!!
Green Bay trades 28th Overall - 660pts
Cincinnati trades 33rd and 65th Overall - 845pts
28th Overall Pick - CB/S Shaun Wade - Ohio State
You guys better go ahead and face the facts now. You want a big time WR; I want a big time WR, but at 28th, they're all gone. There are some risers in the rankings but none of them earn a 1st Round Grade; not yet with me, and I doubt yet with Gute either. So without further adieu....
33rd Overall: Kenneth Murray, ILB - Oklahoma: He's a sideline to sideline inside linebacker who's in the space race known as the Big 12 which should make him much more adept to coverage than his predecessor in Blake Martinez. TRADE!!!!
