Tomlinson </p><p>Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers </p><p></p><p></p><p>Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad Carroll was arrested early Friday after an altercation with police in a bar in Fayetteville, Ark. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Carroll, 22, of Atlanta was arrested for third-degree assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and refusal to submit to arrest, according to police. All three charges are misdemeanors. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Police said they encountered Carroll and a Fayetteville man in the bar after the two were reportedly involved in an earlier altercation at another bar, according to a two-page press release from the Fayetteville Police Department. </p><p></p><p></p><p>While police were talking with Carroll in the bar around 12:20 a.m., he allegedly raised his voice, attracting attention to the conversation, according police. Some bar patrons then closed around Carroll and the police officers, who had to ask the group to step back. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Officers said they noticed a crowd continuing to form around them as they talked with Carroll and that the crowd was drawing near and attempting to "intervene" after Carroll allegedly incited them. Club staff assisted in restraining the crowd. </p><p></p><p></p><p>According to Arkansas law, "a person commits assault in the third degree if he purposely creates apprehension of imminent physical injury in another person." </p><p></p><p></p><p>Carroll, who lives in Atlanta during the offseason, played football at the University of Arkansas and was in Fayetteville visiting friends when the incident occurred. </p><p></p><p></p><p>According to Carroll's attorney, Sam Hilburn, Carroll was kept in a holding cell for 15 to 20 minutes before being released on a bond. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Hilburn said the disagreement began at a piano bar when a bouncer wouldn't let Carroll and his group of four friends in. </p><p></p><p></p><p>"They said it was full, but it wasn't full," Hilburn said. "They had paid money to get into the bar, but it wasn't returned after they wouldn't let them in. One of the guys (with Carroll) got into a disagreement with the bouncer and punches were thrown, but Ahmad had nothing to do with that. Ahmad just walked away. He didn't even see it happen." </p><p></p><p></p><p>After the incident, Carroll and his friends went to another bar, where they were confronted by police, Hilburn said. </p><p></p><p></p><p>"After Ahmad said he didn't know anything about what happened at the other bar, one of the cops told him he was free to go, and when Ahmad tried to walk out of the bar, the other cop stopped him and wouldn't let him go," Hilburn said. "He grabbed Ahmad's arm. Ahmad ****** his arm away and then the cop pulled a Taser out before he arrested him." </p><p></p><p></p><p>A Taser is an electrical stun device. Police have given no indication that the device was used. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Hilburn said he has talked to three witnesses who said that, while some of the people in Carroll's party had been drinking, Carroll said he had not had anything to drink. </p><p></p><p></p><p>This is not the first time Carroll has gotten in trouble with the law. He was cited for trying to buy liquor while underage when he was a student at Arkansas in 2002. Calls to Carroll seeking comment on the incident were not immediately returned. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Hilburn said he thought the whole situation was just a big misunderstanding. </p><p></p><p></p><p>"It's not serious. He didn't do anything," Hilburn said. "After they released him, he was signing autographs for the other policemen before he left." </p><p></p><p></p><p>Carroll was released from the Washington County Jail around 3:30 a.m. after posting a $1,550 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department Web site.
