Sorry, there are so many dang threads in this forum I cannot keep anything straight anymore. Asante Samuel, I would love to see in the slot. He simply is not big enough along the perimeter to cover the DK Metcalfs of the league. I have all the trust in Jaire to be able to shut out a DK Metcalf, but then Tyler Lockett will absolutely destroy us in the middle. With a longer bodied guy, you can put them on Metcalf and have a double over the top. Even if they shut Metcalf down to 50% of his catches, you know the dog will hold Lockett to -10 yards. This obviously expands beyound Metcalf/Lockett to any team with a massive WR. I like Stokes, Campbell is meh, I like Newsome, I really like Adebo...but at this point we cannot even really consider they are even close to an upgrade to Kevin King at this point. Campbell reminds me a lot of Josh Jackson. There simply is not enough tape in Newsome, what did he play in 15 games? Paulson Adebo is by far the best out of these guys, but what is his ceiling? He is a smart player, but is not the greatest tackler. Is he better than King? Lets not forget that King was a tackling dog in college. Probably had more college tackles than the four of them combined. Tackling in college (especially the PAC-12) is a very different beast than tackling in the NFL. Another guy I would move up in my board is Ifeatu Melifonwu. But again, what is the ceiling there? Then thinking about to the Notre Dame game, watching Javon McKinley absolutely destroy him was a scary thought. I have never been a huge Kevin King fan, but I will admit I was ALL IN for Josh Jackson and we know how that turned out. At the end of the day, we need to be careful about who we think will be better than him. There is a developmental process that needs to occur with ALL of these CBs. I would be careful about saying any tier 2-4 will be an upgrade by their rookie seasons, hell even tier 1 guys will be an immediate upgrade. Think about how long it took Marlon Humphrey to develop into the player he is today. While guys like Jamel Dean do exist and can be found in the mid rounds and be immediate day 1 starters, they are few and far between.
